Weedon Island Preserve a Hikers Hidden Gem

Weedon Island Preserve Is St. Pete is just off the Gandy Bridge and a bit of a hikers hidden gem. Most people dive by the area on their way between Tampa and St. Pete and miss out on the great hiking trails. Alltrail.com even listed Weedon Island Preserve #1 Hiking Trail in St. Petersburg, Florida!

You will want to make sure to take the trail that leads to the observation tower. Wow, what a view. You can see pretty far on a clear day and we even saw the kayaking area on the other end of the park.

There are both boardwalk trails and dirt trails and you’ll want to be sure you pack some water, big spray and sunscreen. You may run into some restricted access and run into some mud due to rain on the dirt trails, so be sure to have appropriate footwear on hand.

We had fun looking out for the trail makers as we made our way along. We imagine you would make this sort of a game if you have kids hiking. Lots of wildlife also make this spot popular with everyone.

The day of our visit was a little cloudy, but we still really enjoyed the visit. Let us know if you’ve been to Weedon Island Preserve and your thoughts in the comments below.
