Sakaka Sushi was the BEST we’ve had in South Tampa. In our household, after a long workweek, Friday night dinners are typically restaurant delivery.

We‘ll spend 15-20 minutes scrolling through Uber Eats to see what catches our eye (or tastebuds). And shame on us being foodies, we forget that not all restaurants are listed there.

But we did remember seeing a community group post where several people in our South of Gandy area mentioned how good Sanaka Sushi was, so we placed the order online (super easy) and headed over.

The parking lot is tight, but we lucked out and got the last spot. Stepping inside, the we let the host know we were here for a pickup.

Just beyond the host stand, we could see the colorful bar and TV. We walked around the corner and saw a second counter bar seating facing the sushi station and it looked like beyond that was another room with more seating This place is bigger inside than it looks. Yes, everyone parked outside was dining here tonight. The staff was super friendly and before I got to explore more, I saw my name on the to-go bag being brought to the stand.

This was honestly the BEST packed sushi ever. What a nice surprise to see how carefully packed the food was.

They used smaller containers, so the food doesn’t “roll” around. It arrived home in the same condition as if being served in the restaurant.

Personally, I’m not a fan of sesame seeds and special ordered without them - and they got the order correct. At other places, I’ve had a 50/50 chance of having to pick them off myself. We love sushi, but keep it simple and haven’t explored beyond the traditional sushi rolls.

The Saigon Roll was one of our favorite with steamed shrimp, cucumber, asparagus and spicy mayo wrapped in rice paper.

We also ordered the Bahama roll, the California roll, the Mexican roll and the Boston roll and all we’re equally well made and we’d definitely order them again.

So if you want dinner, go online. If you want a great dinner, ask your friends for recommendations or Yelp. Thank you to our Tampa friends for recommending Sakana Sushi. 2908 Gandy Blvd. suite G, Tampa, FL 33611.
