Started in 1885 by a group of cigar manufacturers, Tampa’s Ybor City has gone through some amazing transformations. Today, Historic 7thAve (the main street) is lined with unique shops, restaurants, bars, and night clubs. The new kid on the block is Hotel Haya with 178 guest rooms, two restaurants, two bars, event/meeting space and a beautiful pool area. The hotel, part of the Aparioum Hotel Group, joins two historic Tampa buildings (Las Novedades building and the Warren Building) on the block and makes use of the original brick and tile work and was once the home of Tampa’s oldest restaurant, built in 1890 - Las Novedades.
We love walking the property and seeing the beautiful exposed brick and restored tile art. The lobby is relaxing and the perfect place for us to grab a few beers and relax, people watch, and grab a snack. Café Quiquiriqui offers Cuban coffee, café con leche or several other fresh beverages. Don’t’ forget the fresh Cuban pastries, empanadas, and sandwiches. We haven’t tried Flor Fina, their full service Latin American/Mediterranean restaurant yet, but hear great things. Our favorite spot? The lobby bar of course. Right in the middle of the action, you Can sit at the traditional bar or opt for one of the groups of chairs and sofas. If you’re lucky, there may be open spots to sit by the pool. INSIDER TIP – draft beer is quite affordable here and yes, they have Jai Alai on tap.
Hotel Haya is located at 1412 E 7th Ave. Tampa, FL 33605.
